Green Diwali
As we are preparing and cleaning our houses in full enthusiasm to welcome Goddess Lakshmi on this festival of lights , we must broaden our vision and take an initiative to celebrate Diwali in a way to keep our environment clean and harmless.
Firecrackers discharge huge amount of poisonous chemicals which affect people who have respiratory problems, asthma and other irritations. Noise of crackers creates disturbance for ailing elderly people with cardiac problems. Continuous exposure to such chemicals can cause lot of health hazards.
Schools, parents and other institutions should raise awareness among children in celebrating a Green Diwali.
There are various ways to do so. For a start, we should stop or at least minimise the use of lights which we lit up everywhere in order to save electricity. We should also ban the crackers which has a loud noise and emits lot of smoke. Some of the firecrackers are non - recyclable, hence polluting the environment for a longer period.
Thus, it is very important to educate our children that after bursting the crackers, it should be disposed off properly. As a responsible citizen, we should extend our help in the ongoing nationwide Swachh Bharat Abhiyan by taking care of it.
To celebrate Green Diwali, we can lit up candles, earthen lamps i.e diyas and exchange healthy gifts.
So, this Diwali, let us all take a pledge in celebrating soundless, pollution-less and an environmental friendly Diwali.
